BALLENBERG
Over 100 residential and commercial buildings from all over Switzerland can be discovered and admired in the open-air museum. Cottage gardens, fields, meadows and pastures laid out according to historical models surround the farm buildings. Craftsmen and women can be found in the buildings, carrying out traditional work with old tools and equipment. And the more than 250 farm animals – the entire range of native livestock species – enliven the Ballenberg in an impressive way. A unique experience for the whole family!
BRIENZ ROTHORN RAILWAY
The rustic steam cog railway runs from May to the end of October through the idyllic Swiss mountain landscape from the Bernese Oberland up to the Brienzer Rothorn. The leisurely ride takes around an hour and takes you up to 2,244 meters above sea level, where a spectacular view awaits you. Whether it’s a sporty mountain hike in seclusion or a family excursion with a view – everyone gets their money’s worth here.

A stroll along the traffic-free promenade of Brienz, directly on the lake shore, past small boat harbors and playgrounds, is a relaxing experience. Such a promenade can hardly be found on other Swiss lakes.

LANDSCAPE THEATER BALLENBERG
Das Landschaftstheater Ballenberg gehört zu den bekanntesten Freilichttheatern in der Deutschsprachigen Schweiz. Kulturelle Geschichten und traditionelles Brauchtum kann man hier hautnah erleben. AXALP SPORTS RAILWAYS
The Axalp is located on a terrace high above Lake Brienz and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. In winter, the family ski area is known for its guaranteed snow and relaxed, uncomplicated operation. The 15 km of perfectly groomed slopes offer plenty of space for carving. The facilities are easily manageable and therefore very popular with families. But those who want to go tobogganing, cross-country skiing or hiking will also get their money’s worth on the Axalp.
In summer, fantastic hiking trails invite you to discover and relax. Whether it’s a family hike along the Schnitzlerweg to the Hinterburgseeli, a guided hike with an “Älplerzlunch” to Alp Tschingelfeld or a challenging tour up the Tschingel – there’s something for every type of hiker.
MEIRINGEN-HASLIBERG
The attractive skiing and hiking area is only a 20-minute drive from Hofstetten. The Meiringen-Hasliberg mountain railways open up a varied excursion and snow sports area between 600 and 2500 m above sea level.
In summer, hiking in the Meiringen-Hasliberg area provides pure enjoyment and active relaxation in untouched nature. An unforgettable experience especially for families with children!
